Novels

I t is one of my goals in life to produce at least one novel... and by that, I mean a real, complete, worthy-of-finding-on-the-shelf-at-Border's fantasy novel.

It actually started with my protagonist's name, many moons ago. Tyric started out, amusingly enough, as a Dungeons & Dragons character. The character in the novel bears little resemblance, but I loved the name and when I started writing the novel, that was set in stone.

I've started and restarted the novel at least four times, each time learning a great deal about the writing process. In my opinion, I've written four separate novels with some common names and places... the difference being, with each one I've actually learned how to write a better story. Be thankful you can't read the original ones... they were awful.

The current working title is 'Of Peasants And Kings,' and it's likely to be book one of what I'm calling the Stormrider Saga. There currently is no anticipated completion date, but the first chapter is available here.

Newsflash: March 2009

Maps are so darn crucial when you're writing fantasy!

The map is, for me, literally the starting point of every fantasy novel. I've been told I have a 'strong sense of place,' whatever that means, and I need to be able to visualize that the protagonist goes from place A to place B and does activity Z...

As a result, I've redrawn the map of the continent of Daedonia half a dozen times. I'll include a few of them here for your amusement next time.
